How We Can Prevent Environmental Disasters

Last week, we saw the devastating effects of environmental disasters, and because it's not enough for us to just stop there, we'll be discussing what can be done to prevent environmental disasters, today.

1) CREATING AWARENESS

A lot of people have no idea what signals indicating impending disasters look like. To create more awareness on disaster prevention, you could partner with local community emergency response teams (CERTs), schools, local churches, the local media, voluntary humanitarian societies like the Red Cross Society, to carry out Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) at the community level to enlighten people. This helps get the community prepared against disasters.

2) LEARNING FROM PAST DISASTERS

From the Chernobyl disaster in 1986 to the Australian Bush fire in 2019 and 2020, every environmental disaster of national concern usually has proper records and statistics that could be referred to as regards the causes, warning signals, havoc wrecked, solutions and other useful details. Being equipped with these knowledge of past disasters and learning from them has an important part to play in making people ensure that they don't reoccur.

3) ADEQUATE AND SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT OF LAND AND INFRASTRUCTURE

Resilient infrastructure should be built against environmental disasters. This includes regional and trans-border infrastructure, to support both economic development and human well-being, keeping focus on making access affordable and equitable for all.

4) INSTALLING EARLY WARNING SIGNALS

The importance of this cannot be overemphasized as part of effective disaster risk prevention at all levels in order to ensure the reduction of havoc wrecked on the economy and humans, including the loss of lives and properties.

5) PASSING NATIONAL BILLS AND POLICIES ON TACKLING DISASTERS

The main aims of the national policy on disaster management are: promoting a prevention culture, preparedness and resilience at all levels through knowledge, innovation and education, encouraging mitigation measures based on technology, traditional wisdom and environmental sustainability.

  1. I am appreciative of this blog's ability to provide information on such an important subject about recycling awareness social media campaign. I discovered other segments here, and I'm excited to put these new instructions to use.
