Quick questions, have you ever heard of the terms Food Loss and Food Wastage? 🧏‍♀️

Did you know there is a difference between Food loss and Food Wastage? 🤷‍♂️

Did you know that the slightest things cause Food Loss? 🤔

If you didn't know these, you're just in the right place. 😉

Food loss is the reduction of any type of food or edibles both in quantity and quality. Food loss can occur from the manufacturer down to the consumer, meaning that the quality of food can depreciate right from the manufacturer during food processing to the point where the consumer consumes such a product.

Furthermore, food loss in terms of quality is the reduction of nutrients or nutritive values in any type of food while food loss in quantity involves the reduction in a physical context, such as falling off of grains from the bowl where a retailer wants to sell foodstuff to the consumer.

Food wastage on the other hand is the reduction of food in quantity. Food categorised under food wastage is originally produced for human consumption but end up being discarded because such products end up not being consumed by humans due to expiration, uncooked products, unfinished meals etc.

Did you know that food wastage is on the high side despite the rate of poverty in Nigeria? Studies show that one-third of food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted globally, which amounts to about 1.3 billion tons per year.

As much as we are aware of the dangers of improper plastic waste disposal, we also need to be aware of other threats posed to Mother Earth.

Stay connected with us this month as we will be shedding more light on the effects and solutions to Food Loss and Food Wastage.

Have a pleasant week ahead! ✨✨
