A Feasible Technology-inspired Climate Solution Using Cyber Security

Cyber security is one of the leading niches of information technology. It refers to the tools, frameworks, techniques, and practices implemented to ensure and protect the security of information, computer systems, networks, and data from unauthorized access, attacks, and data breaches; ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and availability of digital assets.

Contrary to the popular belief that cybercrime started a couple of decades ago, security flaws have been in computer systems for far longer. Which means the presence of cyber-criminals has been around for as far back as the 1950s, starting from The incidence of 'The Phone Phreeks. In 1987 the dawn of commercial antibiotics programs started with the release of 'Anti4us' and 'Flushot Plus'.

In the 1990s, The internet eventually saw growth and development of huge proportions during the whole decade; and along with it, Cybersecurity expanded, correspondingly.

Environmental/Climatic Impacts of Cyber Security

Cyber Security has had impact on technological climatic solutions by executing the knowledge of cyber security.

In evaluating these impacts, we implore a system called the Secure Climate Tracking System (SCTS). This system is feasible and technology-inspired to provide solutions to climatic issues but combines cyber security with environmental monitoring. This solution ensures the integrity of climate data, safeguards against malicious attacks, and strengthens global efforts in combating climate change.

Green jobs are decent jobs in any economic sector such as industries, services, administration, and agriculture, which contribute to preserving, restoring, and enhancing environmental quality. The knowledge of Cyber Security is a great advantage to any individual in this particular field. Since it is a technological knowledge, definitely it will be a greening job adding to the number of available greening jobs by:

        i. The reduction of environmental impacts on enterprises and economic sectors by improving the efficiency of energy, raw materials, and water.

ii. Decarbonizing the economy of greenhouse gases.

For instance, a major environmental issue in Nigeria is oil pipeline vandalism and illegal oil bunkering. This contributes to oil spills and environmental degradation. It also causes pollution (air, water, land) in the environment and sometimes explosions occur which leads to the death of many. Fortunately, there is good news that cybersecurity can help address this issue by implementing advanced monitoring systems that detect and prevent unauthorized access to oil pipelines. This include: Deploying Intrusion Detection System (IDS), surveillance cameras and Remote monitoring technologies to identify potential threats and alert relevant authorities.

Furthermore, by localizing cyber security practices, communities can actively contribute to solving environmental problems at the grassroots level. Through education, community engagement, secure data management, IoT integration, collaborative platforms, and incident response mechanisms, cyber security becomes a powerful tool to protect the environment and foster sustainable practices within communities.

Thus, grassroots initiatives must be empowered with cyber security measures ensures the integrity, confidentiality, and accessibility of environmental data while promoting collective action towards environmental sustainability.

In conclusion, the Secure Climate Tracking System (SCTS) is like a backbone of Cyber Security in solving Environmental problems. By leveraging blockchain, advanced encryption, IDS, SIEM, and MFA. SCTS ensures the integrity of climate data, protects against cyber threats, and strengthens global efforts in combating climate change.

Implementing SCTS will foster trust, and enable data-driven decision-making. Thus, we can agree that the knowledge of Cyber security is of great advantage to any individual and organization in any field of profession.

In today's digital world cyber security has become an essential part of every company's strategy for sustainability, security, and growth. Undoubtedly, Cyber security talent will continue to grow as business grows in 2023 and beyond.
